Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) Dog

1708-0245 Princess Leah the Dog needs a home

Update: PRINCESS LEAH has progressed so much since I wrote the previous bio for her.  Back then she was scared and timid and was not ready to trust any of us.  It's only been a short time and I am so happy to report that PRINCESS LEAH is amazingly sweet, friendly, and ready to trust. She's accepting of anyone who walks up to her although she still acts a little timid with new people.  The only difference is that now she's ready to trust in almost no time at all! She's learned that we're there to help her, to take her out, to love her and she's willing to take it all! And taking it all is easy for this pretty little girl, tan in color with ears that stick up but still bounce with any movement, who will take your heart in a matter of seconds.  PRINCESS LEAH is showing us she absolutely LOVES OTHER DOGS and LOVES TO PLAY WITH OTHER DOGS!  She jumps vertical after sniffing the other dog's muzzle and with a bounce and hop she's just about flips into a different position!  She licks other dogs mouths in her cutesy attempt at saying she wants to play with them and if they don't respond right away, she wiggles, pulls her back legs in and up she goes into a bunny hop landing in the opposite direction!  She's hysterical!  She's funny! She's silly!  She can get a little rough with other dogs though in her play nipping and when she gets a bit excited in the play, she becomes vocal.  This little girl is the bomb.  She is easy on the leash once outside but if there's another dog around, watch out because PRINCESS LEAH will want to play.  This little girl was found stray so all we can say is we think she may be house trained but that's ok as even if she's not, a little consistency will do the trick. She's got to learn the schedule in a new home anyway, right?  Right!  PRINCESS LEAH may still need a family willing to give her a little time to get used to her new surroundings as it took her some time to open up to us here at VBACAC.  Are you patient? Do you like to play? Do you have another playful easy going dog?  Maybe out little PRINCESS LEAH may be the one for you!  PRINCESS LEAH is currently in a back kennel so if you'd like to see her, please just ask to meet her!  Her id number is 1708-0245.  Thank you for considering adoption!

PRINCESS LEAH approached the cage door when I walked up but immediately retreated when I opened it.  She backed up and looked down.  I squatted down to let her know I was safe. Unfortunately she continued to back up.  I had been hearing how other volunteers could barely leash her and if they were successful, walking out of the kennel was an obstacle.  PRINCESS LEAH is scared of everything 'shelter.'  She pancaked outside with one volunteer adn then she did not want to be put back into her cage.  Our little girl is just so scared, she doesn't know what to do or who to trust.  I ended up sitting with her in her cage. I gave her treats which she came to me for and took very gently.  She would back up instantly after taking the treat.  I tried to leash her up here and there and the leash clearly made her uncomfortable so I decided to just sit with her, give her more treats, and not push her.  I was able to get some photos to share thank goodness.  PRINCESS LEAH will need a very patient family willing to let her settle into a new environment although outside of the shelter we most likely will see a different personality.  Are you patient?  Are you gentle?  Are you ready to help this little girl come out of her shell?  She needs you.  PRINCESS LEAH is currently in a back kennel so if you'd like to see her, please just ask to meet her!  Her id number is 1708-0245.  Thank you for considering adoption!
